Greenline News ("Greenline," "we," "us") is a free, web-based financial news aggregator and stock tracker. We are committed to transparency about how your information is handled when you use our service at greenlinenews.com.

Information We Collect

Greenline does not require user accounts, registration, or login. We do not collect personal information such as your name, email address, or payment details through normal use of the site.

We collect limited, anonymous usage data through the following:

• Google Analytics — We use Google Analytics (tag ID: G-NGQPJZRXEQ) to understand how visitors use Greenline. This collects anonymized data such as page views, session duration, device type, browser, and approximate geographic location. No personally identifiable information is collected. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Local Storage

Greenline uses your browser's localStorage to save your preferences locally on your device. This data never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to our servers. Locally stored data includes:

• Your watchlist stock symbols
• Onboarding completion status
• Saved article preferences

You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.

Third-Party Services

Greenline integrates with the following third-party services to deliver its features:

• Finnhub (finnhub.io) — Provides real-time stock quote and company profile data. Requests are made server-side through our Netlify Functions; your IP address is not shared with Finnhub.
• Anthropic (Claude AI) — Powers the "Explain" feature that generates plain-English article summaries. Article titles and summaries are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. No personal data is included in these requests.
• RSS2JSON (rss2json.com) — Converts RSS feeds from news sources (CNBC, Seeking Alpha, Benzinga, MarketWatch) into structured data. Requests are made server-side.
• Google Analytics — As described above.

Cookies

Greenline itself does not set cookies. However, Google Analytics may set cookies to distinguish unique users and throttle request rates. These are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Security

All connections to Greenline are served over HTTPS. API keys for third-party services are stored as server-side environment variables and are never exposed to the browser.

Children's Privacy

Greenline is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
